Seychelles Anyone?! | Featuring Traveler + Blogger: Amelia Knox

We probably all have some sort of bucket list, no matter how large or small.  I do as well! And recently, my friend Amelia got to check-off one of her bucket list destinations – visiting the country of Seychelles.

The Republic of Seychelles is filled with lush lands, sea-blue water, and abundant marine life.  When looking at a map, it looks like a speckle in the ocean. A country situated off the coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean with French, African and Asian influences.  I came to know Seychelles in undergrad while at Hampton University. It was the subject of a research project for one of my business classes. Ever since studying the country, I fell in love and have always wanted to go. So, I was excited to talk to Amelia about her recent trip!

Q: What inspired you to take this trip?

A: “Bucket list destination—always wanted to go because I heard about the beauty of beaches, the soft sand and teal-blue water. Always wanted to go just for the beaches.”

Q: Most memorable moment?

A: “The beach around 4pm.  Prime opportunity to see the beauty of the rocks, natural formations, feeling the sand, to see the beauty of the natural colors—the greenery.  As dusk fell, I watched the transition of day to evening noticing how the colors of the sunset painted the sky—it was beautiful! There was the realization that “I’m actually here”.  Made me remember the beauty of natural landscapes and that they exist in the world.”

Q: Packing essentials?

A:" “I Knew I didn’t need a lot.  It was a short trip and mainly beach scene.  I knew I wanted to take a carry-on because we did have an extended layover in Abu Dhabi.  So the essentials were: swimsuits from Matte Collection, resort style dresses, passport, converter, and making sure the kids were straight. “

Q: What do you know now that you didn’t know before?

A: “To pay attention to the weather!  I went during monsoon season so two of the three days it rained.”

Q: Recommendations for future travelers?

A: “Travel to Victoria (Capital of Seychelles) to see the markets, and get a sense of the spices and see the native people and their communities.”

So what’s next for Amelia?  She has her eye on Mykonos in Greece!  To learn more about traveling to Seychelles visit the tourist site here.
